This portrait is of Smokey, my ex-racehorse rescue and herd leader, and Charlie, my “omega” or “lowest herd member”, who was also a rescue, but doesn’t know he’s a horse most of the time. Smokey sends a message to Charlie, a directive order, by tipping his head and ear slightly toward him, and Charlie responds with the “wide-eyed” look as if he’s saying “oh, boy, I KNOW I’m supposed to do SOMETHING, but I don’t know what”…..after 7 years together, their relationship has never changed and Charlie still just wants to play…
